Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father left her family. In her early years, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to associations with words. Ford began to become fascinated by acting during her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she was a poor fit there. Ford reapplied to Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth application she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor would go on to have frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode in 1990. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Her regular work in theatre led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate was first noticed due to her stand-up comedy in the year 1996.
